Taking frequent bathroom breaks will prevent heat exhaustion and allow athletes to cool down prior to exertion. They can also prevent heat stroke since overheating can be dangerous during sports. Sports players should be informed about heatstroke and dehydration and they should take extreme precautionary measures while engaging in sports activities.

Pediatricians are also concerned with the excessive amount of contact that sports participants participate in. Especially football, wrestling, soccer, basketball and lacrosse involve a lot of contact. Children should be taught first hand safety techniques and how to avoid being injured during play. Sports must be performed according to rules in order to prevent injuries from occurring.

Pediatricians are concerned about the negative effects of bodybuilding supplements on children. Some of these effects include an increase in muscle mass, which increases the risk of injury.
